LA CHISPA’S PRÁCTICA
In the Golden Age of tango, dancers didn't just learn tango in classes — it was passed from one dancer to another through prácticas. Today, La Chispa’s práctica keeps some of that spirit alive.
Come dance. Try things. Ask questions. Dance with different people. Stay for a coffee or a chat. There is no pressure to perform.
For Newcomers: Stepping into the world of tango can feel intimidating. We are here to welcome you with open arms — and wrap them around you! You don't need to know all the steps— just curiosity and a willingness to dive in.
For Regular Dancers: Use this space to practice that expensive workshop stuff, test your new moves, break down technical challenges, pause, discuss, and refine all of it without the pressure of a crowded milonga.
THE SPIRIT OF THE PRÁCTICA
To keep our space welcoming, creative, and respectful, we embrace a few simple community values:
Community: Share what you know. Ask questions. Help each other. A práctica is a place where knowledge passes from one dancer to another.
Mix It Up: You’re certainly not expected to dance with everyone. But every now and then, try someone new. Learn from dancers ahead of you. Help dancers behind you.
Mindful Invitations: The mirada and cabeceo are traditional ways of inviting someone to dance. A direct, polite verbal invitation works wonderfully too. Find an approach that feels respectful and comfortable for both of you.
Feedback: Unless we pay you, you are not the teacher in our práctica;-) When giving feedback, be considerate. Share it through words, by showing, or simply by moving together.
Good Manners: Courtesy, consideration and mutual respect. As simple as that.
